Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City review

(Lord Yoshi’s) Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City review:

What Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City did right:

  • 4 player co-op.
  • Having a faster paced gameplay felt right for an objective squad based game despite Resident Evils typical style.
  • Gaining levels.
  • Easy to use items by pressing a direction on the D pad.
  • Including familiar faces such as Leon.

What Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City did wrong:

  • HORRIBLE AI. The AI in this game makes Natalya look like a rocket scientist. Your team mates will walk right into mines and trip wires, stand there getting hit and not retaliate, and get left behind. The enemies aren’t any smarter often doing the same.
  • Who turned out the lights? I played on a 50” LCD HDTV and I couldn’t see a damn thing even with the brightness adjusted. I purposely tried two other televisions and had the same problem. Good luck burning the evidence in level 2 (or maybe it was 3) when you can’t see it.
  • Weak cover system. This game could learn a lot from Gears of War. Pressing up to take cover was beyond annoying and got myself shot on a regular basis. Your character will also stand up to reload. Yeah, you read that right. I don’t know what idiot game designer thought that was a good idea.
  • That’s it? The game isn’t very long, assuming you can stomach playing the entire thing.
  • No split screen co-op. There is no reason you shouldn’t be allowed at least two players.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City = 4/10 - Bad - None of the positive things listed above come close to outweighing the negative. I returned this game to red box the very next day. This game is only worth playing as an absolute last resort. I’ll buy it for the $10 it is worth someday just to keep my Resident Evil collection complete.

Turn the car around or dust off Resident Evil 2. Trust me.

Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger review

(Lord Yoshi’s) Gokaiger review:

What Gokaiger did right:

  • The characters. You cannot help but love this cast.
  • The plot. It worked very well and kept the series from having very few episodes that felt like filler.
  • The action. This was my first Super Sentai series so it was the first time I got to see how much better it really is then Power Rangers.
  • Basco. A large majority of the time I just wanted to punch him in the face myself.
  • Major villains dying (and staying dead).
  • Being a tribute to the past Sentai and not sacrificing story. They managed to work a lot of it in without making it feel cut and pasted for the soul purpose of the guest Sentai appearance.

What Gokaiger did wrong:

  • It had some boring Zord fights here and there.
  • The greatest treasure in the universe. After spending the entire series looking for it, I felt like it should have had a bigger role in the conclusion.

Kaizoku (Pirate) Sentai Gokaiger = 9.5/10 - Incredible - This is the only Super Sentai I have seen from start to finish but will definitely not be the last. I have a feeling it will be very hard to beat however. I did not want to see it end. I am looking forward to any future crossovers to bring Marvelous and the gang back. Gokai Change!

SoulCalibur 5 review

(Lord Yoshi’s) SoulCalibur 5 review:

What SoulCalibur 5 did right:

  • Smoother and more enjoyable to play then SoulCalibur 4. The fighting even visually looks better.
  • Great create a character. It has a lot to create yet manages to keep it relatively simple. Very well done.
  • Fantastic online mode. A lot of great features such as registering rivals and recording your matches really make this mode stand out. This really raises the bar for online fighting games.
  • Ezio as the guest character. He fits in perfectly unlike the Star Wars characters featured in SoulCalibur 4.
  • Great music. The SoulCalibur games have always had strong music and this is no exception. I have the character select screen tune stuck in my head right now.

What SoulCalibur 5 did wrong:

  • A weak Story mode. There isn’t really much here, 20 chapters straight through and its over. It lacks the exploration and depth of SoulCalibur 2’s single player.

SoulCalibur 5 = 8/10 - Good. A definite improvement over the 4th game but still not as good as the 2nd. They fixed a very large majority of what was broken and thankfully left what works alone. Fighting game and Soul fans should be pleased but like most fighting games the casual fighter might wanna hold off and pick this one up later after the price drops (or rent it).

"I really honestly think your Gears of War 3 "review" was really flawed and you obviously didn't do enough research or played the story enough if you think it's so terrible. Coming from a hardcore Gears fan, I've played all the games and read all the books and they are my favorites. They answer where the locust came from in the games, and it's story has made me cry with actual emotion since the first one. You should try playing it again."

Asked by scars-tell-the-past

I’m glad you enjoyed the game and I wish I had time to read the books, I’ve only read the comic so far. Its definitely something I will read soon. I said the game was great, so I’m not quite sure how that is flawed when we both agree. I even just got done playing a few rounds. The campaign story was really the only problem I had with the game. It just felt way to coincidental that Adam Phoenix had a weapon to save the day. I expected more from the ending. I’ve beaten it twice, I felt the same way the second time too. They also never explained where the Locust came from. There are theories but nothing was ever made the official origin of the Locust. This is something I also expected to be answered. I still had a great time playing it, especially on Co-op. I play a few rounds of multiplayer almost everyday. I love Gears of War, don’t let my one disappointment with the game overshadow the fact that I gave it a thumbs up.

Gears of War 3 review (spoilers)

I know I’m a little late but for some reason I forgot to review it when I finished it

(Lord Yoshi’s) Gears Of War 3 review:

What Gears of War 3 did right:

  • 4 player co-op. It is about time.
  • The massive amounts of stuff to unlock/collect. There is; characters, collectables, skins, achievements, medals, and ribbons.
  • An improved multiplayer.
  • Gears events. They help keep multiplayer fresh.
  • DLC that is worth it. The DLC has added a good amount of content to the game that didn’t feel like a waste of money.
  • Playing as females.
  • Dedicated servers.
  • Boss fights in Horde mode.
  • The Carmine campaign. Live or die? You decide. We did and Carmine lives.

What Gears of War 3 did wrong:

  • Did not answer the question of where the locust came from. We want a clear obvious answer. No more beating around the bush.
  • Killed Dom. I feel like they just did it for the hell of it especially with how it was in the middle of the game. If it had to be done, it could have been done better despite the scene still being very sad and presented very well. I don’t care how tough Marcus is, you’re going to show a little more emotion when your best friend dies.
  • The story. I won’t say it was all wrong but it felt like a huge coincidence that Adam had a weapon that just happened to be able destroy all the Locust. This felt like a plug just to wrap things up quickly.
  • I would have liked for Ramm return, maybe as a Lambent. The queen was hard to take seriously compared to him as a boss fight. This isn’t really something they did wrong but I was still disappointed he didn’t return. At least the DLC gave us some flashback Ramm action.
  • Having the medal for playing as females. This one is minor but it is something I’ve noticed. This is causing there to be a lot of the same characters running around and preventing most from playing as their favorite because they are a male.

Gears of War 3 = 8.5/10 - Great! - Multiplayer is really fun but can be very frustrating. I would love to play the game without Shotguns. You should not be able to spawn with one of the best guns the game has to offer. Campaign is fun with 4 players and turns out to be one of the game’s greatest additions but disappoints with the story. That is really the only thing that brought my score down. What Gears of War 3 is lacking in story compared to its predecessors it makes up for it in multiplayer. I find myself returning to Gears of War 3 very often. Despite the frustration that often comes along with it, Gears of War 3’s multiplayer keeps me coming back unlike others such as Halo, Uncharted, and Call Of Duty. It’s just plain fun.
